guys,i can't find any reason why java networking classes don't have ping method,and wht may be the reason behind it,plz ans this it's urgent.

If anyone wil be kind enough to answer this then i wil be thankful to him.

Java does not have have an API for ICMP protocol access, which is needed for ping, traceroute and the like. Your options are either to integrate native functionality via JNI, or to interface with an existing ping as an external process via Runtime.exec.
