why would a 1-2 yr experience programmer in Java earn less than one with less than 1 yr experience? Also, does anyone think this salary survey reflects reality?

Give the high variability of people, thier skills, their employers, locations, etc, and the low response rate in a likely biased survey, I'm not surprised. Don't overvalue those results.

dang, I'd take 50K for a java position, considering all you hear about these days is the lack of jobs.

for 1 yr, sample size is 36, so the standard deviation = 1/36^0.5 = 0.167, or $12K.
for 2 yr standard deviation = $11k.
so the fact that 1 yr > 2 yr, is statistically insignificant really.
