Get servlet's object from jsp

Hi, i have a question about using object that is created in servlet from a jsp page under tomcat 4.0. Here is the circumstance.I have a servlet that responsible for managing database connection pool which is written by Marty Hall and used in his book.Once this servlet is first requested, it will create an object( an instance of itself) and serves the request. In this servlet instance( in init method), a connection pool object is created and it hold multiple connection object to database. How can i get this connection pool object from a jsp page and so i can check out and check in database connection? What are the typical setting in the server i need? Best of all, how can i launch the connection pool object(create) at server startup? Thank you for precious time.
