It used to be that all you had to do to be a practicing attorney was pass the bar. Not anymore! You have to go to lawschool and then take the bar.
The same is true of accounting and medicine.
Apparently these fields do this to raise the bar and prevent "just anybody" from getting in. Call it an exclusive all boys 'n girls club.
I wonder if it would benefit IT to follow this. Anyone who has industry experience or a computer degree would be grand-daddied in but moving forward, anybody who wants to get into the field must follow the protocol.
Just a thought.

Hi Nadine,
How did you enter the IT field?
Seriously, I think IT is still too young. It does not have an academic body and government body guidances. An average worker in a company have no clue what are you doing all day and earn a handsome paid check. Whenever he/she asked, you describe what you are doing and is him/her truely understand or just pretend to understand what your saying. On the other hands, whenever you said you are an electronic engineer or whatever other than programming related. Everyone in the company have a visual picture forming in their head of what you are doing daily.

Before that works, you're going to have to destroy the current employer perception that higher education does very little to prepare a candidate with hit-the-ground-running job skills.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
