I wish javaranch had a feature that allows me to keep track of certain threads... This way... We won't have to browse the entire topic just to get back to the thread we started (or other people started). Just a suggestion from your friendly rancher.

Also, when you start a thread, there's a checkbox that says something like "Send me an email whenever anyone replies to my thread".

Hi friends. Well.. That only show the recent posts made by me... What about if I bump into a certain thread that caught my interest? I have to remember which category that thread belongs to? Hmmm... I'm thinking of a feature like...

"Track this topic"

It would surely make our lives easier... It's like having a bookmark on the forums. Another thing I'd like to ask is if we have a feature here that allows us to store notes online? Like having a notebook on the internet or something... Thanks!

Most browsers have an "Add to Favorites" feature. It works pretty well for keeping track of a thread.

Hi Timothy,

Maybe something like del.icio.us would help you keep track of your favorite discussions? I think it lets you keep short notes on them too.

Looks like others have been bookmarking javaranch threads and other things at del.icio.us already...

Obviously bookmarking is only a half-way-there solution since the whole notion of "watching" a topic is built on active notification. With bookmarks, it's still the user who needs to poll on the bookmarked resource to see whether there's anything new since the last check.

Unfortunately, the currently used forum software doesn't give us this kind of a feature other than for threads we create ourselves. Some time in the future when we've finally migrated to a more capable platform, this is a feature that will (my personal opinion) likely be near the top of the requirement list.
