What is jsessionid? I found that when I press submit button in a jsp file, the new page appears with jsessionid as parameter in the address bar. Why does this occur? Thanks!

JSESSIONID is used by the application server to keep track of a client. It's the "java session id". It's a requirement of the Servlet 2.3 Specification.
Quite often the JSESSIONID is stored in a cookie on the client side, but if the client has disabled cookies or if the application writer chooses... the JSESSIONID can be sent as a parameter -- this is called URL rewriting.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
