Yeah, thats all we need.
Super-heavy bloated clients.
I can't help thinking Macromedia missed the point of HTTP and thin clients somewhere along the line.

You are right David,
I had very bitter exp with flash as frontend.It happened for me redesign one web application which was build with flash as frontend and asp as backend.
Flash is deadly slow,no error capture,for example if the ASP throws SQL execution error,the frontend will shine well.
Even with 256kbps connection,its slow...displaying Loading...Loading...,then think abt countries with 28-56kbps connections.Flash is not for developing countries,its only suits US,UK and Australia.
Regards
Balaji

Going to have to correct you there, connection rates in Australia bites (love you too, Testra). Any page with a total weight over about 40kb becomes unmanagable.
(15 and counting... not even an error message or anything, no idea what's going on/gone wrong)

For me its hangs out after displaying Initializing per broswer. thats it. probably they might me testing it now.
I found many of friends were with either Cable connection or good dialup connection like iprimus or .. and I also found Austrlia is good in Internet facilties compared to other countries.(i have been their for 2 years).
Telstra simply eats money.

I think either the Flash or the Fancy Applet based user interface is no good.

Yes!! wht u r going to do with fancy GUI. ?its only attracts our eyes,but what clients will expects in long run is fast interactions.
In flash,if u want to send some data from servlet,u have write like this out.println("Username=Balaji&Password=Balaji");
Just imagine sending a filled out invoice or registration form to the flash ??
If you write something other than whts ur flash input tags need from servlets, no error will be thrown. Think abt catching errors?
