I think the error page tag is a wonderful tool, but I wanted a way to see my error when I am in development, and just go to that page when in actual production. What are my options instead of changing the code?

On the error page you have access to the exception that caused the error. In the dev environment, you can use this to show a stack trace on the error page (or as an invisible HTML comment that you can see with 'view source', if you wish).
In many of my apps, I've captured the exception information in a hidden field of a form that the user can submit to report the problem.
hth,

Bear's form idea is pretty cool.
My own solution was to write an app error handler that emailed and paged me when an error occurred. Believe me, I know when my back end systems are down before the operations folks do!
