I have a good understanding of Java but not used it for web development. Should I use JAVA or PHP for web development. The application I will be developing is a database application with a web interface.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

If you are comfortable using Java and want to learn some new technologies (such as servlets and JSP) then I'd go with Java. If you are fluent in PHP already then go with that.
Also, consider where your web application will be deployed. Do you have access to JSP/servlets or PHP on the server environment? What about extensibility and future maintenance - who will be doing this work and what skill set do they have?
Unfortunately there is no simple answer. FWIW, I'd use Java, but then I'm biased.

Thank you. I am new to PHP. I heard that it is a good language to use with MySQL. Our environment is Windows 2000 server and IIS as a web server. We can get Apache and Tomcat if necessary.
I appreciate you telling me that you are biased. One of the problem I have is the number of technologies out there. If choose Java what do I need to know to develop a web based database MySQL as an engine?
Thanks
