Amna,
I think that this question is really unanswerable. It's like asking if Java is better than C# or vice versa. You will get a lot of comments, but no concrete answers.
Plus, most people here at Javaranch are going to tell you to use JSP. We are all biased. Well, Except for Thomas Paul, he likes .NET for some reason
Anyway, my suggestion would be to complete the project with the technology that interests you the most. Here are a few questions you should answer for yourself that may lead you to a conclusion.
1. Do I have the desire to learn one of these technologies I am not familiar with?
2. Which technology can I be the most profeciant with therefor getting the project done better and sooner
3. Is my professor biased with a technology, thereby giving more points for doing the final project in one technology versus the other?
4. It is merely a question of ASP or JSP or is there going to me more to the project that may sway using one over the other?
Answer these questions and you might find an answer for yourself.
Now, as for my recomendation: JSP

In order to judge which is better for your application we would need to know a lot more about the application, the environment it will run in, and your skills.

I used to be a big ASP user but have now moved more into Java. I think that when you decide you need to consider like Cindy says what it is that you want to learn and then go for it. Nowadays you won't get away with old fashioned ASP so its going to have to be .NET but either way I expect once you have selected I think with a bit of work it will come together.
Good luck

Keep your backend processes separate from your front end and you can use whatever you like.

Now I want you to tell what projects can I create in VB.net or ASP.net.
