I have 2 custom tags. reader:getSetting is going to read a property file and set 'myHost' to the value from the file. In the connection:tcp custom tag, we make a connection. I currently have this (which works):

I'm trying to figure out how to eliminate all the scriptlets from the jsp page. I loaded the JSTL taglibs, but this doesn't work :

even though will evaluate properly if placed outside of the connection:tcp tag. Is there a way to remove the <%=XXX%> scriptlets that are used in custom taglibs? (Note - JSP 2.0 direct support for EL ${} is not an option).
PS - Is there anyway to turn the annoying Graemlins off so that the "o" face doesn't show up when I type ut ?

NM - found it in Chapter 15 of JavaServer Pages (O'Reilly).
You have to use scriptlets until JSP 2.0 spec servers with native EL support are in.
