Just asking, is CGI better in implementing an application like this what Javaranch did (bulleting board type, posting of questions) than JSP/servlets? I'm planning to make an application similar to this but dont know w/c technology best suits. Thanks.

No, CGI is not a better solution. There is currently an ongoing project to move our forums over to a J2EE based board.

Hmmm, I contemplated moving this to the 'About the Ranch' forum along with the rest of the 'why doesn't the Java Ranch use Java' questions, but this question seem to be more along the lines of 'when to use JSP over CGI?'.
Peruse through the JavaRanch forum for the answer to why JavaRanch uses UBB currently (a move to a Java-based system is planned for the future).
As to whether I would use CGI to build such a system from scratch: hell, no.
At this juncture I wouldn't use CGI to build anything. Even very simple web apps are so much easier to build using JSP technology.
The only reason I can think of to use CGI over JSP is if you have absolutely no control over the server environment, and CGI is the only server-side option you have.

Hmmm, Ok my doubt was gone already.
At least I've a peace of mind now knowing that Java groups will put aside its CGI tool to use its own tool. Thanks again.

Yeah. What he said. Totally. Wait. What? Sorry, I was looking at this tiny ad:
