package javax.servlet.jsp.tagext does not exist error

i am running Tomcat5 ..jsdk1.4.2
trying to compile
package tags;
import java.io.*;
import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
public class HelloTag implements Tag {
private PageContext pageContext;
private Tag parent;
public HelloTag() {
......
package javax.servlet.jsp does not exist
package javax.servlet.jsp.tagext does not exist
where to find these packages ..
thanks in advance

Be sure that servlet.jar (included in the Tomcat discribution) is in your classpath.

i downloaded servlet.jar and put it in the class path..but i want to know by default any servlet.jar file is provided by tomcat5 ..i colud find only servlet-api.jar at common/lib folder

That may be it. Why not take a lokk at the contents and see what classes it contains?
