I am developing a web application. In the jsp i need to provide a button, which on clicking will invoke the scanning process of some document using the scanner. Then it will upload the file to the Database. How should I approach???

JSP code (servlets) runs on the server. So any calls to a scanner would be made in relation to the server. You need an applet to do this, since that runs on the client's machine. I don't know of an easily avaliable API you can call to invoke a scanner (like the Java Print Service for printers). Unless someone knows any different, you might have to write your own calls to native code - which would make your applet inherently not platform independent.

"cwi info",

We're pleased to have you here with us in the JSP forum, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!
