What is jspc and when it is used?

what does jspc -keepgenerated mean?

JSPC is an Ant task and shell script to precompile JSPs. If you don't use it, the first user to hit a page will have to wait for it to be compiled.

jspc -keepgenerated means that the generated java files (servlets) will be stored explicitly.

Thanks a lot for your response Jeanne.

But when we deploy applications in weblogic or any other apps server we dont do it normally right? On what situations you go for precompiling jsps using this jspc.

I use WebSphere which offers a custom extension to the deployment descriptors to allow for precompilation. I don't use jspc explicitly, but I do precompile my JSPs.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
