WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO ME?
I seem to be loosing interest in programming! Since age 10 it was an integral part of my life, and it's been 7 years, and I don't seem to be excited by it anymore!
And it's not because I am failing to make something, so far I've been able to do everything I tried; but I just don't want to do it! I am not motivated whatsoever.. I am going to college and trying to keep up with social life, all the snowboarding and paintballing, and what little time is left, I try to do programming... BUT I JUST DONT WANT TO!!!
WHAT THE HELL!!! I even have a "motivative" project - building website for money, but I DONT WANT TO DO IT!
Anybody been through this? I need serious help with this, cause I can't just leave programming out of my life... IT IS MY LIFE!

happens to all of us from time to time.
It's part of having an active mind, you can't stay focussed on the same thing all the time.
Pick up another hobby to do and take time away from programming. In a few weeks or months your interest will likely resurface and if not you're still young enough to seek another profession.

Hi,
In my way...put up your mind in some other activities and forget about the same damn box for some time. It will be better for you, i think.
Then get back to your development as usual...
Thanx .....& cheers

pick up a camera (a real one, not a digital!), throw in some black and white film, and learn proper photography.
Get a minimal kit to process your own film as well, loads of fun and cheap to do (that's a big reason to take black and white, it's cheap and easy to process yourself).
If you like it, you may invest in equipment to make your own prints as well.
Go out there and shoot, clear your mind.

I had this similar problem sometime back. I informed my manager that I'm losing interest in programming. He asked me whether I can manage a team and I said let me try it.
Now, I'm happy - got promoted as Project Leader, got a salary increment and no work to do

As this doesn't concern Servlets, and we don't have a "Teen Angst" forum, and given that there's apparently a paid gig involved, I'm going to move this to "Jobs Discussion" where it would be at least vaguely on topic. Followups there, please.

Only if I can be the pilot and paid for it
Would mean I first get paid to learn to fly (I know the basics).

Try History , Gardening, Political science.
As the battle of Hastings raged in England, King Udayadityavarman II was busy building the greatest city the world had ever seen - Angkor Wat. Much of an old 9th century city was submerged just to create it's vast defensive moat.
According to this site Angkor Era - Part II it was Suryavarman II (1113 - 1150 A.D.) who built it.
And I never knew Cambodians were Hindus originally. And how did they build these cities without programming ?

Are you saying you are 17? What a terrible thing wanting to do other things and not site in front of a computer all day at that age.

Try earning the same amount of money via other means that interest you. Either you'll be excited to find a new skill within yourself and forget programming forever or you'll recover from that temporary boredom and get back to business
Sometimes, the only way to remind ourselves of our greener lives is to take a walk through an arid region.
Happy self-searching!

Don't worry, your not supposed to want to do anything when your 17. It's just part of growing up. So go with it. At 17 your biggest stress should be trying to hide the fact that you 'scoffed' 12 ounces of Rye out of the old man's 66er!

Try your hand at these jobs instead :
High End Estate Agent
Estate Agentsa take home a percentage of the property value, so house price inflation has enabled their pay to soar. Staff at Savills will share a bonus pool of 40 million
Private surgeons
fees are up. NHS consultants charge up to 60% more than the international average for private operations, a recent study showed.
Orchestral soloists
A soloist will be paid 8000 or more for a concert but the rest of the orchestra get 100 each - a level of disparity rare even in professional sports.
Commercial QCs
Gordon Pollock will be paid the biggest legal fee in history for leading the case against the Bank of England for BCCI creditors.
After dinner speakers
Bill Clinton charges $100,000 per speech, John Major 45,000 and Carol Voderman 20,000. Nobodies get 2,000 at a time.
And the teenager who was told by sacked Education secretary Estelle Morris that he'd be a nobody when she was his teacher advising on career options, was already worth 500,000 then unbeknown to her. Joe Dhinsa is now worth 40 million. He trained to be chartered surveyor eventually founding the investment company Athlone Group whereas though she had failed her A levels before going on to Teacher Training College.

I think I know what to do...
It's just like with girls - when you get sick of a girl, it's like the same old boring shit over and over, all you gotta do is take some time off... You know, do something totally different...
I am gonna do same with programming... I am going mountain biking today instead of building the website.
Thx for support everyone.

nowadays, careful what you wish for. One time I had a chance to leave supply chain industry to get into the financial world, I turned it down. Why? Because I won't be traveling anymore. Somehow being on the road for a couple of months a year allows me to get away from programming.
But turning down the offer was the dumbest decision I ever made, until that financial company got into a financial scandal.
I know my reasons don't make sense, but the moral of the story is; be grateful with what you have.
