I was wondering what are current "HOT" technologies is Java, something which has higher demand and getiing paid well.

I'm not sure whether *anything* is paid as well as in 2000, but I see some momentum in the open source tools area in London these days. There seems to be demand for JUnit/Maven/Cruise Control/Cactus/Xdoclet etc. xP seems to be in demand in the financial district, which is the highest-paying sector around here.
