how to catch compile-time exceptions w/out configuring web.xml

Is there any way to catch compile-time exceptions programmatically, without
configuring an error page in web.xml ?

No. By definition, a compiler error breaks the code. That makes adding any code to detect compiler errors impossible.

This isn't a big problem though, since you will have tested your JSPs for errors before sending them to production.
