Hello,

I'd like to use JSP/mysql to build a knowledge base. Something that would allow users to upload documents and then be able to search to find them. Sort of like pcmag.com or others that when you search on a term brings back a list of articles, a small blurb and a percetage match to the search term. I think I could easily implement something that uploaded documents and attached key words that could be searched on... but I'd like to do something a bit more sophisticated.

I've tried doing google searches on knowledge base and jsp document searches and got a bunch of crap, so if anyone has any pointers on where to look, I'd be ecstatic.

Thanks,

Jimbus

1. Don't think in terms of doing any logic in JSP - JSP is for presentation, logic goes in helper classes like JavaBeans. Build your heavy search/knowledge base logic so it can be tested outside the servlet/JSP environment.
2. The Lucene project is the gold standard for text search.
3. There are many knowledge representation efforts in Java - for example JESS - we are fortunate to have the author of Jess hanging around at the ranch.
