I would have thought this would be an FAQ item, but a search showed nothing.

When using a forward after an action, how do you "cut the cord", so to speak, so that a user hitting reload doesn't repeat the action? For example: inserting two entries into a database?

Thanks,

Jimbus

You don't. If refreshing would cause a duplicate operation you either "cut the cord" by redirecting (which creates a new request) instead of forwarding, or you code things such that you can detect the duplicate post.

Both patterns have been discussed before so a search might find you what you seek.

redirect is what I am looking for.

Sometimes searching is tough, if you don't know the term. Searching on reload, which I thought would be part of any such discussion, brought up one or two unrelated items.

Thanks,

Jimbus
