Hey, I'd like to know what you think of these third party java tests like proveit and so forth are? I'm thinking that the sun cert test is better, since I've caught some errors in the past on a test I took 2 years ago. Fortunately, it was a test where I got to see the answer after I committed, but it's just flaky to not have these java tests QAed. How do you know there's a problem unless you can see the answer as you take it?

Frankly, I'd rather give someone a good interview, since I'm a developer, but a manager here is considering these tests. Are they crap? Do they foulup? What's been your experience?

If u haven't taken any sun tests, some of the recruits would mandate you to take one of these tests(to check your relative competense). That way they do compensate for someone who does not have the sun/ibm certs.

Usually recruiters pay for the certs(like proveit/brainbench) when they ask u to take that test.

I didn't ask who paid for the tests or what people ask you to do. I asked for you guys opinion on the tests. Where I work, they are thinking about using the tests. Personally, I'd rather look at a sun certification, but I know many good developers who don't have one.

So what do you guys think of those third party tests?

Think of how stupid the average person is. And how half of them are stupider than that. But who reads this tiny ad?
