I have to display huge amount of data on my jsp page.Pagination cannot be used due to business requirements.I am using a compress filter to enhance user experience. The problem is that the entire data is flushed at one shot on the jsp page.Is there a way that data keeps flushing in installments, i mean instead of 1 shot data keeps trickling in bits and pieces as the page gets loaded?

Depends on the servlet container. If i remember right Tomcat does this in junks of 4K.

At which moment the browser believes he has seen enough data and starts to render the page has always been a bit arcane to me.

I noticed that IE starts to render earlier, when i give it all the dimension
data (image height, width, Table dimensions etc) insted of letting it
figure out the available space on its own.

Is there any way by means of putting extra code somewhere or some configuration setting by which this problem can be resolved?

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
