I am curious as what people look for in a job. Would you rather have an extra 2 weeks paid vacation or an extra 10K in salary. All other things are equal in the jobs, technology, job duties, etc...

Thanks
Vic

I will go for 10K extra and apply for sick leave at the end of year.

You won't have time to take the 2 weeks anyway so go with the money and trade some of that overtime for extra leave instead of money...

Some figures:
end of 1998 I had 12 days left of 23
end of 1999 I had 33 days left of 23 + 12
end of 2000 I had about 52 days left of 23 + 33
then in 2001 they told me to use them or loose them so I took 2 months paid leave, end of 2001 I had 10 days left of 52 + 23...
2002 was a miserable year, but a similar story.
end of 2003 I had 8 days left out of a total of 12 (started a new job halfway through the year).

None of the firms that I have worked for allows to carry over more than 5 days of holidays from the previous year! How unfair!!

Take the extra 10K. When they lay you off after 2 years, take a "paid" vacation.

Welcome to the new millenium!

(BTW, I would now be eligible for 4 weeks if I hadn't been tossed).

When I see a job posting asking for what I'm looking for in terms of compensation, I reply:

With respect to salary requirements, I am happy to provide them to you, but don't have enough information on which to base a number at this time. My requirements for salary are based on many factors including: nature of work, company culture, type of clients, office location, percent of travel, opportunity for growth and education, opportunity for advancement, typical working hours, non monetary benefits, and other miscellaneous factors. Without this information, I can propose a number, but it may vary by up to tens of thousands of dollars depending on the other dimensions of the position and it compensation.

I believe there is much more compensation than mere time and money.

Out of my 22 Paid Leaves I never able to take more than 2 weeks leaves(10days), so go for extra money :-)
Did Steve tell you that? Fuh - Steve. Just look at this tiny ad:
