I am trying to develop an auto responder application using jsp.My application should send mails to the customers at periodic intervals from the time he registers with the site.I don't have about to send the mails at periodic intervals without human intervention.
Please help me by providing an idea regarding this issue. What approach should be followed?
Thank u

Hi Verve,

I assume you are wanting to create some sort of email broadcasting application. In general jsp/servlets are designed to be used as a web component and should work on a request/response paradigm. Since those are not meant to be running like an application you might have quite few issues related to time out and destroying of the component if not controlled the bahaviour of the web/application server.

I would advise you to create a thread based application wherein you have full control of making the thread sleep and run again. It can be easily wrapped to run as a windows service as well.

Hope it helps you.

cheers

"verve",

There aren't may rules that have been put into place here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!
