I need to display a JSP page that calls webservice to load some data into Collection. As it is loading it up(might take around two to three minutes over ssl) I need to display the status on the JSP page: for every element it is loading, the value for in the Collection has to be displayed.

I plan on displaying a form and an Action class to access DAO to fetch the data. Can my primary JSP page cordinate with Action class (may be through thread)and display the status or do I have to take the user to an adhoc page may be Servlet to display the status and come back to primary JPS after the loading?

I know I have used lot of key strokes to define the problem statement. Please give me your faithful thoughts!

I would opt for refreshing a status page until the web service download is complete or if you have the needed user info, trigger an email when it's done.

I have an example of the former at http://simple.souther.us/not-so-simple.html
Look for LongRunningProcess.
