I am a Masters Student, hoping to get a job soon after my graduation..
I already have 3 certifications+ 4 yrs IT experience.
I am not able to decide which would be more better certification to complete before December
1) Websphere Studio Application Developer Certification
2) OOAD-UML

Thanks,

why is that?

what makes you guys tell him SCEA without even thinking which ones he has completed?

Just curious. As I thought OOAD-UML cert could not be a bad choice. It would be a general cert.

Leena

To help answer the question, Ann, you might want to mention what your goals are in the short term and long term. What type of job do you want, and what type of company, and where.

Mark,
Currently my goal is to get started as a Senior J2EE Developer. Eventually I would escalate to working as an Architect.

I am sure that working as a Senior J2EE Developer, would demand OOAD-UML . The organization that I have in mind for myself uses Websphere.
Before starting a rigourous job hunt in Michigan, I want to ensure that I get either of the two certifications.

Looking at my present state of mind, I am not able to decide which certification would be the best.

I hope my inputs would help you to suggest me the right choice.

Thanks....

Hi Ann !

I would say "Websphere Studio Application Developer Certification" without hesitation in your case.
For OOAD-UML is very general, you must already have these basic skills as soon as you have a level beyond apprentice, which is your case. I believe they are subordonate to the level of certs you already have, such as if you have SCWCD you already know HTML and Tomcat at minimum.
So get Websphere cert without hesitation if you have to use it, IBM tools are in my opinion very robust and efficient but very heavy and complicated to use, so a specialised cert will help convincing you can handle them properly.

Best regards.

Anne, I would go for the WSAD certification myself. I'm not sold on the OOD/UML style certifications at all.

I think OOAD is better than SUN and IBM certification not because of it's job oprtunity, because it is more independent from software companies.
If you have OOAD you get OO knowledge, not ability to working with IBM's tools (Like most other certification that increase your abilibty in their platform) .

Hi Ann,

Just a question, have you not had courses
OO analysis and design - and in connection
with the course used UML ?

If so, then I wouldn't recommend the OOAD-UML.

If not, well.. then im surprised.

NO I don't take this certification but I read about it's requirement and compare it to SCEA .In my opinion SCEA is just for J2EE architecture but OOAD is about UML and it's usage is wider than SCEA.
