In an EL function, can the value I pass be the value of an EL expression?

In other words, can I do something like this?

<p>${someBean.someProperty} scrambled is ${fun:scramble(${someBean.someProperty})}.</p>

I'm getting a JSP syntax error that leads me to suspect that I can't pass the value of an EL expression to an EL function. If that's the case, is there a better way to do this?

The ${} encloses the entire expression. You don't use it as some sort of 'fetch' operator.

Isn't it great when things actually get simpler!
