I've got a question, what areas of java or programming in general should you fully understand to become a QA tester???

Well, it depends on what type of testing one wants to do.
For a a online web application testing, u would just need to click, click and click.. no exceptions.. workflow proper.. perfect!

But I white box testing may need knowledge of Java.
