Given a choice with same package, position and technologies...... Which company would u prefer to go for?? HP or Polaris ???
One of my friend is really confused abt this......... he got offers from above 2 companies and he needs to make a quick decision..... [ September 16, 2004: Message edited by: Vijay Vaddem ]
I too think so.Polaris might give him onsite opportunies in south east Asia as it has its Customer base there. Also I am not sure but HP(India)/Digital(India) etc have setup here mainly to save money.Where are Polaris is totally project based company.
The projects under Digital Soft(HP) is mostly maitainance projects. Not much challenging. But they gives lot trainings which will be helpful in future. Not much work pressure.
Polaris projects are mostly with Citi Group and banking domain. Lot of work pressure.
I feel HP is better choice. Onsite in both companies depends on kind of project. Even I had offers from both but I went with HP.
Now I am not with HP. NOw I am with Lucent. I liked HP. Work culture is good, bosses are good. I am assigned to a project and I felt I am not going learn much new in that project and it same as my previous projects. No domain knowledge also. So I left and joined in Lucent where I can get some Telecom domain knowledge. Otherwise HP is a good company, cool environment.
I dont think there is any hidden costs. Infact most of the company's have a annual component called Variable Pay which will be given based on your performance and company performance. Even HP have same concept but now they are giving full amount with your monthly component. Even Polaris having same variable pay which 5% of CTC. But I believe HP is having good HR policies
90% of the crowd at Polaris is non engineers from NIIT. Polaris salaries are very low, and increments are a laughing matter.
They do have a lot of onsite work but they dont pay well at onsite.
Above all the management treats you bad.You will never find anyone ready to listen to you. They "will" send you onsite... with very little pay and no health benefits or insurance....
"Great Lakes", We're light on rules here at the JavaRanch, but one we take very seriously is the policy on display names. You can see it here.
We require your name to be two words, your first name, a space, then your last name. Fictitious names are not allowed.
Please edit your profile and change your display name to one that is valid. Please do it soon, since accounts with invalid display names get deleted, often without warning.

If you get HP dont even think of Polaris.
I was with Polaris. I too agree that given a choice I would choose Hp. but your statements above are wrong. Polaris does have medical benefits and insurance, as I have used those facilities. I also dont agree that 90% of employees are from NIIT. I could see real good techies from good colleges in that organisation. The pay packet is thin though.
Is polaris so bad company ? My brother is in dilema ? He is selected for Accenture and Polaris ? what are the pay packages for Polaris, India for a person having 2-3 years of exp. Do they pay good or better than Accenture ? Are there any future prospects for engineers ? After reading above comments I am really amazed about Polaris Stand ?
Polaris pays approximately 2.5 to 3.2 lakhs per annum for 2-3 years of experience. Accenture definitely pays better than Polaris. I dont know about onsite opportunities in Accenture. But Polaris does have but very few. Accenture will be a good choice.

I am with Polaris...I am onsite...their current pay package is real low..no benefits provided...no medical, dental or insurance...no help from managment...The worst fact is that I left my job in India and went for a so called long-term onsite oppertunity ...just waiting for a ticket home now..
Polaris chennai has better projects than Gurgaon though. However Accenture is a better choice.

To the poster formerly known as Great Lakes. I assume by "onsite" you mean in North America, may I ask where? Was it in US or Canada? My impression of Accenture (formerly known as Arthur Anderson) is that its best avoided, given their unprofessional behaviour in the Enron affair.
What sort of work is related to Associate Consultant in Polaris. What type of work can I expect as as Associate Consultant in Polaris?
what sort of projects does polaris works on now days. is there any type of salary increment scheme in polaris. DOes polaris mumbai have good oppurtunities furhter. is polaris work culture good than MBT. is it worth leaving MBT and joining Polaris.
Really polaris pays very less. do they work only on banking, finance projects ? Is there any chance of going abroad working with polaris. what does it mean "u may have to work out of mumbai for further assignments".
I am working for one of the Citigroup companies and on the project on which Iam its being developed by polaris pretty huge one. Apart from this there are lots of other citigroup projects which are undertaken by Polaris.
Given that Polaris's main business is from citigroup their domain of specialisation is Banking and Finance if you are looking to switch to banking domain I think it will be good company to go for.
As far as on site opportunity goes I don't know about Polaris Mumbai but from Polaris Chennai I have seen people moving to on-site support especially the project on which Iam.
Associate Consultant means there will 3 bands again. Based on your band you can be max module lead. Like they have 110, 120, 130 Polaris is having lot of project from Citi Group in BFI. I got appointment in Polaris for citi group insurance project. We cant compare MBT and Polaris. In polaris there will lot of work pressure. When I got appointment my PM told that I need to work for late hours and they asked me to take my house near to office
But if you ar eworking in MBT as u hv experience in Telecom domain, why dont you try in telecom domain as it is very hot and telecom companies are paying more salaries now days like Lucent, Cisco, Juniper networks, Sasken.
Hows the work culture in Polaris and onsite pay structure specifically to Singapore or UK?. I too got few offers along with Polaris and since Polaris is offering a long-term onsite oppurtunity, I am now in a dilemma of switching either of them. Moreover, I am in telecom and if I join in Polaris, I need to move to Banking domain. Whats ur suggestion, as I am looking for earning bugs which I am thinking of Polaris, as it offers long-term on-site.

I heard lot of work pressure in Polaris. I guess not many onsite opportunities in Polaris. There are lot of big companies recruiting in Telecom domain with big salaires. Why dont you try them. I feel you better to be in Telecom Domain itself. I moved to Telecom domain from Banking Domain, and enjoying my work
Have anyone worked on Polaris-Gurgaon in onsite for Singapore/UK?. If so, hows the work atmosphere and pressure?. How would be the pay structure and duration of the onsite work. If anyone experienced, do let me know..
As there is some interesting discussion going on here, I am 2.3 yrs of exp. in J2EE, I am also having few quick questions: Given a choice among BEA Systems, Bangalore IBM, Gurgaon (ISL Division) I flex, Mumbai
What to choose? Which one is the best paymaster and also has good techi work too? Who are the best pay masters in IT industry (J2EE)? And what are the best companies to work with?
If you want to stick with pure J2EE go for BEA systems . Money doesn't matter in long term .

I understand that BEA is a very good paymaster in Bangalore.. And it should be in the range of 6-8 lacs.. 4-6 is not at all a good paymasters' sign... Economy is booming guys.. it is time to exploit the options..
