Hi folks,

I shall highly appreciate your advice.

I did BE in CSE from Amravati University(1998) and Masters in Tech. Mgt. from UNSW(2001). I am a SCJP(88%, 2000), who recently appeared for GMAT(600,4.0) exam. I currently live in Sydney and am planning to become Australian citizen(by naturalization) in Nov, 2004 and then apply for PIO card here in Sydney. Due to family reasons, I *have* to relocate to India, preferably Delhi where my family lives.

In year 2000, I worked in India for five months in a USA based company in NEPZ. I also received few other offers from B'lore viz. Philips and Satyam, which I declined since I was not willing to relocate from Delhi. Since 2001, I have worked here in Sydney primarily in areas not related to software. But, I have vast University teaching experience in CSE as well as some primitive 1st teir tech-support for companies like HP and StorageTek.

I am currently not employed and am preparing full time for AGRE CS due on 13 Nov. My comp. sc. fundamentals and C/C++ programming skills are above average. I need a job in India. Do you think I should start applying for jobs even though I can't be in India for interview until Nov.? My long term goal is to do graduate study in CS from USA. Thus, I would prefer a product development, instead of service related, company.

How do I utilize next two months to my advantage? Thanks for reading this message and please share your *first* thoughts with me.

Kind regards,

Prabhjyot

I don't think any problem in applying.Telephonic interviews should be a solution.
Is graduate study in US related to product development vs Service related company? If study in US is your goal then why don't you apply directly there? Why do a job and then go there and that too via India?

Arjun,

Thanks for the reply.

At this stage things "I have to" have taken precedence over things "I love". That is why I have to come back to India for good. Besides, my credentials at this stage are not strong enough to fetch me a tuition fee waiver for a decent US grad school, due to my mediocre firt degree.

You mentioned telephonic interviews. Where should I start? Would I be considered a fresher in India, since the HR might treat me as "out of work" since 2001? Finally, what should my destination city be, as I have to book my flight?

Many thanks,

Prabhjyot

I am little confused. After two months what are your plans? You are giving Advanced GRE in CS in November. Then you will be looking for a job. Then till Aug/Sep. you will do a job and then resign and move to U.S.A. Am I right?
If that is the case, with your teaching experience,I will recommend ApTech in Mumbai or NIIT in Delhi. They definitely hire people with teaching experience.

Arjun,

Thanks for the quick reply.

No, as I said before too, I do not have any plans or intentions to go to USA for studies in the near future. I would like to settle in India for good. The primary reason for preparing for AGRE CS is to brush up my CS knowledge so that I can do well in interviews in India. The other reason is that I would love to do research in compiler back end *some day*, so a strong AGRE score may add some weight to my resume. I finished my BE long time ago(1998), and that too with average GPA.

Location within India can be compromised, but I would prefer to work in computer systems domain.

Can anyone please answer my questions raised in my previous post?

Many thanks,

Prabhjyot

Thanks Arjun.

Billy, the MTM degree has a duration of one year full time. Most guys I know are into system admin jobs, with the exception of few senior project managers...very limited software roles...but things are better if one has local recent experience.

au revoir

A/NZ "based" software companies?!

Frankly, I am not sure. But if there are any then they would be "product based" small companies. Had heard about Tower, Bullant etc. once during my Uni days.

To tell you honestly, if I had a choice to live in Australia I'll invest in MBA full time from a AGSM and pursue a finance career, rather than IT. Their average GMAT score is soaring with every passing year because they "buy" students from around the globe just the stay numero uno school in the region.

Hi Probhjyot,

You have said that finane career is a good career in sydney. Can you please tell me anything about game market. I want to have a career in game development. Please give me an idea if u have any info. If u say that having degree in game dev. from australian university will be a good option, then plz do mention the name of the univ. Since u were in Sydney , u might have idea whether it is possible to get a full scholarship in any univ there.

Thankz in advance.

Arnab
