Why is it that I always end up posting on a Friday?

I am using Tomcat 5 and JSTL 2.0.

I've combed the forums this morning, and am finding a lot of interesting info that dances *around* my problem, but nothing that seems to address it directly, so I'll just ask straight out:

Is there a way to use <c ut> from within an html textarea box?

What I'm trying to do is prefill the textarea box with what the user has entered before, which I've fed to a variable the first time they submitted the form. What I *want* to do is this:

But of course the <cut tag isn't read at all...

I've seen that people achieve the same thing using some jsp or javascript stuff...is there any way to do it just with JSTL?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry for the bother. What I wanted to do works just fine, granted that one proofreads properly.

What makes you think that the <textarea> tag has anythging to do with it? All HTML markup is just uninterpreted template text to the JSP engine, so whether your <cut> tag is within a textarea or not is completely moot.

If the <cut> is not being evaluated, there's a setup problem with your page.

Heh. I got back to my posting as quickly as I could after I figured out my problem. But not quickly enough to keep you from schoolin' me. Heh.

The reason I thought there was a problem with the <c ut> being interpreted was because of a comment that somebody made on an HTML forum which shall remain nameless that jstl syntax wouldn't be evaluated within the <textarea></textarea> tags. That, combined with the fact that it seemed as if that was the case when I tried it (I had my variable defined wrong, turns out), made me think there might be something going on there. Also, apparently there can be problems with jsp within textareas because of how whitespace is handled there...

At any rate, of course it's not a problem to do it just the way I wanted to! That'll teach me to recheck my stuff yet again before I post!

You know the old adage: "don't believe everything you read on the web". That source is very misinformed...
