Do following Environment variable settings
1) Define a new Environment variable JAVA_HOME and give the physical path of the JDK were it is installed on ur machine for example: JAVA_HOME: c:\jdk1.4.2
2) Define a new Environment variable CATALINA_HOME and give the physical path of the tomcat webserver located on your machine for example: CATALINA_HOME:c:\tomcat4.0
3) After defining these paths start the tomcat webwebserver by running the script startup.bat in /tomcat_home/bin/ folder.
If the tomcat has successfully started then check the status of your deployed web application in Tomcat's Administration Console. If required restart the application.

What on earth does that have to do with the question?

With regards to the question, somwhere in your code you are passing a null to a method that is expecting a numeric value for conversion.
