Why are you using the JSP Document (XML) syntax as opposed to the "normal" JSP syntax?

That's because i'm working out a example from a book, and this is the way they do it. But i can't figure out why it's nog working in my project.

You're talking about the normal way, could you tel me how i can solve this in the normal way?

Kind regards

In a "normal" JSP page, you wouldn't be using that tag at all. It is used only in the XML document syntax.

I have no idea what's on the SCWCD exam, but if it doesn't require you to use the XML syntax, you may be wasting your time.

The XML syntax is intended as an intermediary format for the containers to use during translation and thus is only of interest to people writing JSP and Servlet containers such as Tomcat. It is not intended for people to use to hand-code JSP pages.
