See

TCS and Infy are pretty much the same. Only this time TCS is paying more
than Infy both for the year and the take home figure. The other difference is the TCS 2 year bond and the Infy one year contract. One more thing is that in Infy there are 50% chances of you being put in a coding and development project whereas in TCS chances of you being put in a coding project is very bleak. Mostly, I've heard of ppl. getting placed in testing an maintenance projects in TCS!!! But again it all depends on your luck. You might be put in a maintenance poject in Infy too. Make sure to consult some company people if you can before you take that decision. I am joining TCS by the way.

Best of Luck

If you want to learn and not to sit idle, don't join any of the aobve company. .Both are filled up with huge human sea.But we don't have any choice as small and some medium sized Indian companies exploit people to fullest extent while giving peanuts.
Although people sit idle in TCS/Infy ,they are 'trained' on CMM,CMMi kind of stuff so that resume will look good. Also they give training on other technologies too.Infy has better reputation abroad.Reputation of TCS is not that good. For many years,it was notorious for doing everything to grab the project in India and abroad.

Hi Nadeem,

i too got job in TCS during campus placements. i left the job after 9 months. i was placed on a maintenance project, but that was not the problem. if u get to work on a maintenance project which directly lets u touch technology , there should be no problem.because even in a maintenance project there are CMRs ie change management requests wherein u add new features. my problem in TCS was that i was made to work on a psuedo technology i.e technology wrapped up in a comfortable cushion. TCS pune develops tools which can make even donkeys work. and there are 90% donkeys in TCS. my other friends who joined TCS are all not that bad. most of them are abroad...USA,UK,Singapore,Switzerland.so u too may have that chance in TCS.ur luck cant be predicted by any of us here.remuneration should not be the deciding factor for a fresher.

both the companies have good name, whatever dirt may exist inside them.in fact if u join TCS u will first have 2-3 months training after which ur placement in india will be decided. my advice is ...DONT OPT FOR DELHI,go for bombay.all the new projects are in bombay, bangalore and chennai.

best of luck

My question is not limited to TCS or infosys but to all the companies including US companies such as HP , IBM , Sun etc
Some IT professionals are nice chicks or women.
and some companies should have customer service representives and they r mostly girls.

as far as i know, both TCs n infy are pretty much the same- especially for freshers.there is advancement in both.and moreover most of my seniors in TCS agree that TCs's training helps tremendously.wht matters finally is the projects one is assigned to and that depends on how u perform. id be joining TCs soon.

good luck.

Nadeem,

Your question is something no one can come up with a comprehensive answer.
When you talk about advantages in one company another person can come up with ten disadvantages. You might not share the same viewpoint. So it is best to go by paper. And I think on paper today TCS is a better company. Though some may again disagree with me. Choice is yours anyway.

Nadeem,

One very important thing to consider is what position/designation each of the companies is offering you. How much would be your probation period. When you be actually made permanant.

I guess Infy nowadays has a pretty length period for every fresher through which you are just a traniee and nothing else. I 'm not sure though, so check it out for both the companies.

Hi Varsha,
The TCS training is about 45 days long.
It's going to be held in Chennai, Coimbatore or Trivandrum.
The subjects going to be taught are
C,C++,Java,Software Engg., Life Skills(Personality Development) and other
software processes related stuff.
You can find other queries here
http://www.rjayakumar.netfirms.com/tcs.htm

Click on the Trivandrum and Coimbatore links.

Varsha,
The information that I have about TCS is that one is on probabation for 1 yr. Through the period the designation will be Asst. System Engineer. And there is a 1 yr. service agreement which will cost you Rs.50000 if you break.

Varsha,

One clarification.
Do you know exactly the no. days after your medicals, you were
called for or given your joining letter. I've had my medicals, and still waiting
for my joining letter.

Vijay, im yet to receive the joining letter. After the medicals we were asked to wait for 10-15 days for the email on joining letter and training details.
As far as I know, none of those (of Aug 28,29 walk-in) who finished medicals got their joinging letters. Please dont worry 'cause the med test is a formality and fitness isnt a rejection criterion unless theres a serious life-threatening disease which cant be treated.

And Kaustubh, thank you - the service agreement is for two years which includes training.

I feel being a fresher either Infosys or TCS doesnt make difference. Some time back TCS used to give the best training but now Infosys also good for training.

Nothing much personal ..
You can learn much in TCS that too as a fresher. Then the way TCS sticks on to Process is really good, you might have even seen papers about the IPO stuff & the way in which TCS grows it's really good when compared to Infy.
What more input you need in specific .

Thats it
