It's not actually related to JSP but I couldn't find better place.

When I create a file with any name, say something.anything. How container/browser interpret this kind of file?

Strange thing is, browser do display the content of file.

It may depend on the container but I think that Tomcat follows RFC 2046:

4.1.4. Unrecognized Subtypes

Unrecognized subtypes of "text" should be treated as subtype "plain"
as long as the MIME implementation knows how to handle the charset.
Unrecognized subtypes which also specify an unrecognized charset
should be treated as "application/octet-stream".

Actually, I'm not sure at all. It may also depend on the browser...
