Can someone please try to explain me the following .

If i specify my root context with "/" in the URL , my code is correctly calling index.jsp with request parameter . Otherwise it is passing null as request parameters in index.jsp.( index.jsp is the welcome file ).

Incorrect :

http://myserver/myapplication?param1="myname"

is calling index.jsp with null as request parameters.

Correct :

http://myserver/myapplication/?param1="myname"

is calling index.jsp with param1="myname" request parameter and hence is successfull.

Thanks in advance.

The first option is invalid syntax. When you say myapplication/?param1=myname is equal to myapplication/index.jsp?param1=myname
but when you say myapplication?param1=myname is invalid.
