I would suggest the SJCD ...

also some frameworks ...

More correctly: a score of only 55% on the SCJP means you barely passed.
Unless you passed with flying colours on an exam, would you gloat about it?

I am in a position to gloat, but SCJP is almost a joke compared to SCJD. But I must say its a good certification to get all the basicis of java. Considering all the stuff they ask for these days, I would think SCJP would barely cut it.
Its a rough market they expect you to be a master of all trades if you arent the master of one . IMHO SCJD would definitely make things look better.

Either that or do your own project, or take an important role in a good open source project.

Hi Ravindranath,

Upon passing the Sun exam, you will receive a certificate from Sun within a month. The exact score will not be reflected on the certificate. You don't have to show the interviewer your result slip, just the certificate will do. Now the question is, being SCJP certified, is it good enough to hunt for a job? Some Ranchers here suggested taking SCJD.

SCJD is very different, no memorization involved. You must design, implement and document a small client server system. This cert is probably the most prestigious of the Sun certifications. It actually proves you can create a real program. The best thing about passing SCJP is that you can now do the SCJD.

None of these certs are likely to help much directly in getting a job, but they increase your confidence, help you answer those stupid technical questions, improve your code and maybe get you past the HR kiddie.

I dont even think that SCJP is a big deal anymore. There are loads of people who are SCJPs and have never done a significant Java project either in academics or real life. SCJP is just an indication about your fundamentals of Java and NOT a measure of your actual coding skills.

Anyone can clear SCJP by studying Kathy's book for 2 weeks and giving some exams readily available on the internet.

Try doing some projects in Java and get some hands on experience.

THe only good thing about SCJP is: 1. it increases your confidence level with Java 2. Will help you to tackle some tech interview questions on Java.
