Hi guys, I like your forums very much and try to visit my popular forums in daily basis. I am wondering about there is a mechanism for watching forums and notifying when new posts exist by e-mail (I know the notification mechanism for threads opened by me, but i am talking about all threads and posts). Something similar to confluence's watching mechanism.
A notification for every post made on this site! If 100 people from my organization subscribe to that facility with thier official mail-ids, our mail server will crash!
Probably one of the moderators can post some interesting statistics here like -Number of posts posted on a single day -Number of new threads created on a single day

You may right but i like to get new posts which is from my subscribed forums. There might be some kind of subscription mechanism and so people only get emails from their subscribed rooms. Also there might be some message digestion mechanism similar to yahoo groups.
We had a prototype RSS feed for one of the forums for some time, but it was so popular that it brought the server to its knees. Search this forum for "RSS" for more info...

OK, here are some numbers for you
Average unique visitors per day: 15333
Today's active topic count: 333 (at 7.30pm, so extrapolating: 333 / 19.5 * 24 = 410 active topics in a day).
Many of those active topics will have multiple replies in any given 24 hour period. For example, "Long time ago," was created this morning, and it has had 20 replies in 19 hours.
Now I am not sure what you can do with these numbers, as there are few people who would be interested in getting every single message in every single forum (although I can bet if we offered it some people would try and find out the hard way just how badly this would swamp their inboxes).
A very bad calculation would be to just multiply all those numbers out, and the result would be 102,117,780 emails being sent out each day. Of course that number is totally incorrect as it is more common for a topic to only have two responses (so bring the number down to 10 million), but there are many people who dont log in every day (so increase the number again).
Rumor has it that other high traffic forums also have major problems when they allow users to request notifications on message creation / modification.
As Ilja says, we tried an RSS feed and it has (so far) caused major problems. It doesnt mean that we will never have an RSS feed or an email notification system, but at the moment we can't offer it.
