let say i work for a company in bombay and i receive a call from a company in Bangalore. Do I actually have to go to Bangalore to give the interview or do they conduct telephonic interviews. How does inter-state job interviews work in India. Can it be generalized or does it vary from company to company.

Hi Soniya,

If companies are recruiting heavily, their panels go to major cities in India...like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi...So u can appear for the interview in a city, whichever is convenient to you.

But if they want to hire a few candidates, and u r staying far away from that city, then they can conduct ur telephonic interview, which is becoming very common now a days. Or in rare cases company reimburse ur expenses for interview...

BTW, when are u coming back and which is the company are u working with currently?

Thanks & Regards,

Grishma

it varies from company to company of course. telephonic interviews for as long as an hour are quite common today. but they are not the final interview. u must appear in person to finally get the job. i was called for the interview from delhi to my home in M.P. and i had to literally go to the place of interview...proved lucky for me coz i am going abroad.

was just wondering how high ur market value might be after working in US for 6 long years in java technology.which company are u working for, if u dont mind sharing?

Generally new shops don't mind seeing their employee's face on first day of employment. As others said,it depends on how 'urgent' the requirement is.Oldies like L&T,Infy want to see their prospective employees before first day of employment. Some of them also want employees to get medecally examined by physician making sure that their prospective employees are 'normal'.

It varies too. For me all rounds of Interview were through telephone only. I met my employer only on the first day of my job.

Many companies have this requirement. SAP labs,IBM,TCS,IFLEX,Simens are few examples.

Neeraj, market value is what even i am busy trying to find out. In Mumbai, I guess it may be between 9 and 12 lakhs.

But isnt that industry standard in Mumbai for somebody with 8.5 yrs of experience irrespective of whether he has been in the US or not.

And I am under the impression an MBA with 8.5 yrs experience wud be drawing a much bigger salary.

I am curious to know everybody's opinon on this.

BTW, Abt my company, i wudnt want to reveal the name. Pay package is 90k + bonus.
