The JSP specification defines two sets of syntax for authoring JSP pages:

Standard JSP syntax format:
JSP files that use the standard syntax are called JSP pages.

XML syntax format:
The JSP files that use the XML syntax are called JSP documents.

I understand how to write JSP document but m not really sure as to when should we go for writing JSP document. I would really appriciate if someone could put some light on this with some real examples/scenarios.

Thanks In Adcance

You don't. The document format is intended as an intermediary format for the containers to use, and for systems in which JSP documents are to be auto-generated under program control (where creating an XML DOM in memeory and serializing it is an easy task).

It is not meant as a format to be hand-coded by humans. Indeed, trying to do so has driven many a JSP author to madness.

Thanks for your reply Bear,

I don't have much expereice in j2ee,however I am trying explore it & get clear understanding.

what i understand from your reply is we don't write such JSP documents, we write only normal JSPs.These JSP documents are meant to be auto-generated by some system & used by the container.please make me correct if m wrong.

Can you please ellaborate on such systems, how these jsps are auto generated ( what input does that system take to generate such Jsp document ).

Thanks

Yes, your take is correct. But no, I personally know of no systems that emit the document sytnax.
