Hi all !

On 17th december was posted on german Monster.com (found through keyword "java") an offer from Raytheon requiring US citizenship for : USD 25,000.00 /Jahr (jahr = year, just in case).

I am very surprised, this looks to me as an awfully low pay, perhaps not even a beginner's one, especially considering level asked and military environment. It would probably be decent in India, but not in an expensive european country (this would just pay yearly housing in UK for example).

Snapshots of skills asked :

What do you think of this one ?

Best regards.

My best guess is they already have a consultant lined up, perhaps retiring military, but the army requires them to try to hire a permanent. I'm suprised they didn't ask for a security clearance. Now they can say "We tried".

25K would be in the private sector pay for someone with 3-4 years experience.
In the public sector pay is a bit less, but the benefits (free insurance, pension plans, etc. are usually better to compensate and you make less hours).

Remember pay in Europe is a LOT lower than it is in the US.

True, but it has to be a US citizen. Also, check out the job requirements. They sound more like someone's resume than a job description.

It is actually common, even in the private sector -- particularly with larger companies that have to conform to hiring standards. Personally, I think it is stupid, it may be unethical to violate hiring standards, depending on who gets hired. It is definitely unethical to ask people to interview for non-existant jobs.

The exchange rate has changed drastically over the last year. 25k US dollars is now about 18.5k euros.
