Hi,

as far as I know it needs a page directive to make a Java type usable within a JSP, like

This directive has to be on every single JSP. Is there something like a global import? I'm new to a project consisting of a web project maintained and developed with RAD 6.0 and WAS. I'm puzzled by a lot of "can't find type" (I only have a German error message) errors on most of the JSPs, and I don't see an import on all of them, so I figured there must be something else.

In my signature, there is a link to the JSP spec.
Look at section JSP.3.3.5.
It covers 'Defining Implicit Includes'.
I think you can do what you're looking to do with a prelude.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
