web-inf or WEB-INF?

If the former, it needs to be uppercase. If the latter, please read this.

You should also go back and fix your first post so others don't ask the same question.

Which version of the JSTL jar's did you place in WEB-INF/lib? The URI you specified is for JSTL 1.1. It's different for JSTL 1.0.

Bear,

I have edited the post.

I copied the jstl 1.1 jars (jstl.jar, standard.jar) and tried and got the same error

I changed the directive to fit 1.0 version, copied the 1.0 jstl and standard.jar and got the same error, that the absolute uri cannot be resolved

Is there something else ican try...

Please Help

thanks

Are you sure that the web app structure is sound? It should be as simple as dropping in the jars.

What version of Tomcat?

Are you absolutely, 100% sure that you are using the JSTL 1.1 jar files? Open the jars and look to make sure that the URI in the TLD files match the JSTL 1.1 URIs.
