Hi guys,
It is really nice to find people helping and giving suggestions to other people out here. It's great. Well friends I have some queries regarding job at Amdocs, Cyprus. I have an offer from amdocs. ?I just wanted to know that how much is amdocs paying to someone liie me who has 15 months of experience in Java. Also if someone can guide or suggest what kind of work culture is there it would be really helpful. One of my major concerns is saving so I would be really thankful if someone can tell me how much can a person save in a month if he maintains a decent life style in Cyprus.
Please reply soon.

Thank you in advance.

Well guyz as far as I have come to know, yes it's a good offer for someone with experience of 1 year. I would really like to know what kinda a work they have in Amdocs. I m particularly interested in knowing about Java projects as I wud working on Java. I mean the technology, the type of work etc.

Regarding compenation, is it really worth it. Is it good enough for someone to leave a package of 5 or 5.5 here in Delhi???

Hi guyz,

Well frnds there are a lot of small and mid-sized companies in Gurgaon and Noida that are willing to pay you good salary if you really have a very good and convincing interview. But again the thing is that i don't think one can just ignore the question of brand name while choosing a company. That is why I was particularly asking that question. Bcoz I guess Amdocs has a brand name as far as Telecommunication industry is concerned. It is a big company with more than 9000 employees and spread across 40 cities all over the world.
As far as good pay in Delhi is concerned I guess Negarro is paying good. Then in Noida you have another company by the name of Infogain. A salary of 4.5 is atleast always in the offering as far as the current market trend is concerned. There are few in Gurgaon which offer a package of 4 and ample opportunities to go abroad for 3-4 months in a year, so u eran a lot thru allowances. Consider Appulse Retail Software Limited, a subsidairy of Pricer AB, Sweden if you are comfortable working in a small company with just 50-60 people around. But again salary is directly related to your performance in the interview.

Just to add more I have been working in Core Java for last 1 year, with lots of exposure of various OS including Windows, Linux, Solaris, and MAC. Recently, I have also started working on JSPs and Servlets.

Infact, I am also interested in knowing that shud I really go for certifications. Are they really worth spending money. Do they give you an advantage or upper hand. Please suggest what kinda certification I can go for. I want to stick to Java and J2EE. What's the latest trend in hte industry?

Let me suggest you something. For long term, I will stick around with other big guns being hiring in India for forseeable future, than relocating to Cyprus. You will be stuck for couple of years and they don;t even sponsor your green card if you relocate to US)

I have worked for Amdocs, it has its own share of politics and so called israeli top managment crap(they prefer promoting their folks compared to quality desis, this might happen with any multi-national I presume).

Hi guyz,

Well I totally agree with Kishore. Politics is everywhere. But then it's part n parcel of wherever u go n whatever u do. Hey Kishore as u said that u had worked in Amdocs before can u plz tell how are the increments given in amdocs. On an average how much increment can one expect or what percentage of the current salary.

Life is an experience ... nJoy it :-)

My understanding of part of a politics field is to be one among the political players, rather than a observer. that is the case if you work for Amdocs, since all the israelis play the major part in politics(with their hebrew crap added in between); you are just a observer.

I worked for Amdocs in us for 2 and half years. My salary was the same as my hired salary(no change in those 2+ years) things were bad at that time.

I really enjoyed leaving Amdocs and consider the worst place I worked in my professional career. It might work ok for some one with minimal expectations from a employer(stable job etc), but in the ever charging techno profession with decent times back in horizon; it is not a great option.

remember that if you stay in india, you can be part of the techno evloution. if you move to cyprus; all you will be doing is Amdocs development with occasional travel to client and india. You will not be part of the indian it revolution and ever evolving pay packages in India. That is what I mean to convey in my initial post.

Hi kishore,

I am sure you must be a having a good experience to say all that. But, I didn't really got ur point when u say abt great IT revolution. Yes I know it's happening in India. And I totally agree that if in Amdocs it would be a little isolated kinda thing. But then you can't and i guess shudn't switch jobs every sin months or year to be a part of great IT revolution. If you wana learn one needs to stick in a bog comapny for a while. And as u said may be it may have been a worst part of ur life, but I don't think it didn't paid off ;-). I am sure u must have learnt a lot from that 2 or 2+ years. Didn't you. Or was it that after working for 2+ years in Amdocs you were so out of the great IT revolution that u as an professional were about to extinct. Wud u mind if I ask u where r u working now-a-days.

Presently I work as a application architect with cingular Wireless in US.

"things were bad" was a comment towards the bad times in IT, in US and in telecom in particular. Amdocs had some layoffs during that period and used the downturn as an excuse to not pay any bonuses(except to some high influential israelis).

Sure I did not waster those 2 years. It is more like learning some(but not a lot though). After 2 years, I realized that I am in a dead end job. Got more involved with J2EE and places like Javarach. Got a better paying, more visibility and better position job with Cingular.

BTW in IT, about 3 years is a long period of commitment; unless you are really loving the work you are doing. If not, its not a issue with making a switch and that is more possible in India than working in Cyprus.

Just my 2 cents of opinion.
