Does IT professionals migrate for any reason other than money? Of course yes, but lets find out what those are.

To me, other than a yearly good savings, I want to know a new culture a new life style, a new work experience.

And yours?

Good.me too.But people once migrate to another(read richer) country, they are reluctant to move to some another country for knowing another culture, life style. . So this savings becomes dominant than your knowledge, culture, life style thirst.

get away from the way your country is being run...
I'm ever more seriously contemplating trying to make a run for it, just to get as far away from the idiots running this country as I can.

The latest: police have to reimburse criminals for any items confiscated from them such as illegal firearms.

It's just as bad here. We give our worst enemies an all-expenses-paid trip to a sunny Carribean island. They just kill us.

I am reminded by people on this thread of a quote from famous author Tom Wolfe: "You can't go home again".

On the other hand, the immortal poet Robert Frost said: "Home is the place where, when you have to go there, They have to take you in."

I came to US for money

But, the reason I am staying here is

a) Lifestyle/Standard of Living:- It's more comfortable here
b) Work environment: Work environment is structured better than how it was when I was in India
c) People: I hate to say this, but overall, everyday, I get more respect as a person than I ever did in Bombay. There is less racism in US
d) Goverment: Goverment(s) in US are more transparent and accountable
e) Money: People who convert dollars to rupees and compare their salaries are just fooling themselves. You have to compare salaries, living cost and rate of inflation. The yardstick that I use to measure how rich I am is not based on my yearly income. My yardstick measures how soon I can retire while mainitaining my standard of living.
f) Myself: I am used to expressing myself in a way that is effective in US. I will have to retrain myself if I have to go back.

At the end of the day it all comes down to priorities.

I agree with all of your points but will still prefer & love to "live" in India than in US or in any other country.

Short trip, may be a year or two stay is fine in other country. But permanent one .. ummmm for me

Hi Soniya
I said Money can be earned at home too. It doesn't mean the comparison between money earned at U.S and home country. I will compare the salary figure when money is going to be the main factor for my migration.

when money is going to be the main factor for my migration.

This also doesn't mean that I will be willing to work for free or at a price less than the standard salary.

and I don't know how much I can earn in U.S.

I would never live anywhere but in the US. I have visited 10 other countries so far and it only made me feel more strongly about living in the US.

Prema, let us know the reasons. I myself feel that USA is one of the best countries other than my home country to live in. The other countries I would like to leave are all English speaking European countries and Canada. USA is specially attractive as its a land of opportunity.

Ashik,
Here are some of my reasons:
more Freedom to live life that way I want to live
less corruption
better healthcare
more respect for human life
more respect for women (yeah!)
very racially tolerant communities for the most part
openness of land everywhere
it's beautiful country
I am sure I can come up with more if I take the time.
