What technologies do you think will be the highest paying in the coming, say 5 years? I keep hearing that .net is going to take a larger market share ( in terms of applications being developed using the technologies)that java is now commanding?

What technical skills are the most wanted by recruiters currently and what are they going to be in coming few years? In other words which skills should we invest our time grooming so we will keep an edge in the software industry?

Other than the technical skills what are the soft skills that make an aspirant land a job that others can't?

Is there something that any of you can say about workplace ethics?

Any of you have considered satisfaction ( nature of job more in lines of your philosophy of life kind of a thing) as one of the keys in choosing a job more than another, even if it pays less in terms of money?

Some one with specific vertical industry skillset will definitely more money in ERP software development(example: SAP, Peoplesoft) compared to J2EE and .net in the coming 4-5 years.

The above statement is general in nature. There will be exceptions that are attributable to superstars in their respective fields.

Definitely!

I'm currently working for a rather small company. Work is interesting and challenging. The whole company has a great, friendly atmosphere; the team is working well together and interested in improving all kinds of skills. We are working together to become more Agile, regularly hold internal training workshops and host a local Agile Users Group. And I'm working on a product I can relate to - environmental authorities make a big part of our customers.

I certainly don't get as much money as I could get elsewhere - but who cares?!?

You're probably in a growth industry, the Kyoto Protocol takes effect next Tuesday. It also sounds a lot more interesting than yet another J2EE drone job at a bank.

Does anyone have anything to say about documentum? A friend who owns a consulting company says he is getting tonnes of requirements for professionals in that area. As far as I know it is jut another tool.
