Have you ever got a job ONLY because of certification?

I am interested if ranchers have actually had interviews and then job offers solely as a result of being certified? Were you actually at an advantage over other non-cerified candidates? I am not convinced that being certified alone is enough to secure a Java job (prove me wrong). Most of the people I know already work with Java (as a commercial paid employee) for at least a year (usually more) before getting certified as a way of validating their skills and adding something to a CV/Resume.

No. Also, not that many people where I work even have SCJP but they are all qualified SW engineers with an actual degree in comp sci. etc.

I applied twice in a company, I got interview and offer the second time purely due to SCJP(I was actually told that). I didn't accept the job though.

I was able to get job before SCJP and after getting it also. But its degree and work experience which mainly counted. I wonder, once you have certification then for how long can one count on it, like I did SCJP1.2, 4 yrs back.
