The Sun J2ee tutorial (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3669/6n5sg7b5u?l=ru&a=view) says the following for the name-from-attribute of a tag variable:

" If name-from-attribute is specified, the value is the name of an attribute whose (translation-time) value at the start of the tag invocation will give the name of the variable."

The attribute value at runtime becomes the name of the tag variable, so how could it possibly known at translation time? I'm assuming translation is done for the first time resulting in tag handler classes which are then repeatedly used whenever the tag is invoked.
