You can't.

However, explore the fmt tag library of the JSTL.

Or you could use the bean-el tags from the Struts EL Tag library. Though, as Bear mentions, fmt is a more apt answer to your question. Bean-el is a *possible alternative*. I find it a bit less verbose than fmt.
