thin and thick database drivers

please can any one make clear between thin and thick database drivers

there are two types of drivers in Oracle
1.thin (type4)
2.OCI(type 2)(thick)
the first one is fully developed in java and are used when u are using applets.
whereas the 2nd are partially implemented in java and using the native methods and these are used for java application program.
